In Grower Champagne and its Nuances, wine expert and wine writer Julia Coney will teach on why grower champagne is having a moment, what its means to the region for the producers, and why discovering the nuances brings new perspectives from the lens of the growers.
It's time to meet the farmers. Grower Champagne; made by the same people who grow the grapes, bottle them, and pour their whole life into the land . These are the récoltant-manipulants: producers who grow at least 95% of their own grapes, often working a single village or even a single plot, which means every sip is a direct conversation with a specific place.
The big houses dominate exports with over 90% of what leaves Champagne is from négociant labels, but more than 5,000 growers make their own wine from the region's 19,000-plus independent vineyards. That's a lot of stories waiting to be told. In this tasting, we're going deep: think terroir, texture, and the kind of specificity that makes you set down your glass and say wait, what was that?
Come thirsty and ready to think. No prior wine knowledge required.
